Amphiuma merupakan genus salamander akuatik yang berasal dari Amerika Serikat,[2] dan merupakan satu-satunya genus ekstan dalam famili Amphiumidae /æmfɪˈjuːmɪdiː/.[3] Hewan ini secara kolokial dikenal sebagai amphiuma.[2] Di kalangan nelayan, mereka juga dijuluki "belut conger" atau "ular kongo", sebuah misnomer atau sebutan yang keliru secara zoologi, karena amphiuma sejatinya adalah salamander (sehingga termasuk amfibi), dan bukan sidat (ikan), bukan pula reptil, serta tidak berasal dari Kongo. Amphiuma memiliki salah satu komplemen DNA terbesar dalam dunia makhluk hidup, sekitar 25 kali lebih banyak daripada manusia.[4]
