Polyalthia atau banitan adalah genus tumbuhan berbunga dalam keluarga Annonaceae. Ada sekitar 90 spesies yang tersebar dari Afrika hingga Asia dan Pasifik. [1]
Ini adalah pohon dan semak. Bunganya memiliki enam kelopak dalam dua lingkaran, kelopak bagian dalam melengkung ke dalam di tengahnya. [2]
Nama Polyalthia berasal dari kombinasi kata Yunani yang berarti 'banyak obat' yang mengacu pada khasiat obat dari spesies tertentu. [3]
Jenis
Genus besar ini diketahui bersifat polifiletik, dengan banyak spesies telah dipisahkan dan dipindahkan ke genera lain. [4] [5] Spesies juga telah dipindahkan ke dalam genus ini ( misalnya P. malabarica dari Phaeanthus ).
