Capitol Records adalah sebuah label rekaman Amerika yang didirikan tahun 1942 dan sejak 1955 dimiliki oleh EMI.[1]
EMI diakuisisi oleh Universal Music Group pada tahun 2012. Kantor pusat perusahaan ini adalah salah satu landmark di Hollywood, California.
Sejarah
Johnny Mercer mendirikan Congressional Records pada tahun 1942 dan mendapat dukungan finansial dari Buddy de Silva, Glen E. Wallis. Pada tanggal 27 Maret 1942, mereka membentuk Liberty Records dan pada bulan Mei mengubah nama mereka menjadi Congress Records.[2]
Pada tahun 1955, EMI membeli 96% saham Congress Records dengan harga $ 8,5 juta. Pada tahun 2012, EMI dijual ke Universal Music Group.[3][4]
