Cichlasoma adalah genus ikan air tawar dalam keluarga cichlidae. Genus ini sebelumnya sangat besar (takson keranjang sampah) yang meliputi anggota cichlidae dari Amerika Utara, termasuk Amerika Tengah dan Selatan. Penglasifikasian ulang dan pemisahan genus selanjutnya oleh Sven Oscar Kullander dan ahli iktiologi lainnya telah mengakibatkan hilangnya banyak spesies, yang sebelumnya merupakan bagian dari Cichlasoma dipindahkan ke genus seperti Amphilophus, Archocentrus, Herichthys, Heros, Nandopsis, Parachromis, Thorichthys, Vieja dan lainnya dalam tribus Heroini.[1][2]
Spesies
Menurut FishBase, saat ini terdapat enam belas spesies yang dikenali dalam genus ini,[3] tetapi tiga takson Amerika Tengah yang sangat berbeda (Cichlasoma geddesi yang merupakan sinonim dari Herichthys deppii, serta Cichlasoma istlanum dan Cichlasoma trimaculatum ditempatkan dalam genus Amphilophus) tidak termasuk dalam Catalog of Fishes, sehingga secara efektif membatasi Cichlasoma ke sekelompok cichlidae berukuran sedang-kecil yang agak mirip di Amerika Selatan.[4] Di bawah ini merupakan daftar spesies Cichlasoma:
