GenBank merupakan basis data sekuens dengan akses terbuka yang menyediakan koleksi beranotasi dari semua sekuens nukleotida dan terjemahan protein mereka untuk umum. Basis data GenBank diproduksi dan dikelola oleh Pusat Nasional Informasi Bioteknologi (NCBI) bagian dari Institut Kesehatan Nasional di Amerika Serikat, yang juga menjadi bagian dari International Nucleotide Sequence Database Collaboration (INSDC).
GenBank dan kolaboratornya menerima sekuens urutan lebih dari 100.000 organisme berbeda yang diproduksi di laboratorium di seluruh penjuru dunia. Basis data dimulai pada tahun 1982 oleh Walter Goad dan Laboratorium Nasional Los Alamos. GenBank telah menjadi basis data penting untuk penelitian di bidang biologi dan telah tumbuh pesat dalam beberapa tahun terakhir, mencapai tingkat pertumbuhan eksponensial dengan berhasil menggandakan jumlah data dalam waktu 18 bulan.[2][3]
Rilis 194, diproduksi pada Februari 2013, berisi lebih dari 150 miliar data nukleotida di lebih dari 162 juta sekuens.[4] GenBank dibangun dengan pengiriman data langsung dari laboratorium individu, dan juga pengiriman data massal dari pusat sekuensing skala besar.
