Impromptu
Impromptu (/ɪmˈprɒmptjuː/, bahasa Prancis: [ɛ̃pʁɔ̃pty]) adalah sebuah komposisi musikal bentuk bebas dengan karakter improvisasi ex tempore seperti saat ditunjang oleh perasaan kenangan, biasanya untuk alat musik tunggal, seperti piano. Menurut Allgemeine musikalische Zeitung, Johann Baptist Cramer mulai membuat karya-karya piano di bawah (anak) judul "impromptu." (AMZ, Mar. No II, 1815, col. 6), yang diandang sebagai pemakaian tercatat pertama dari istilah impromptu dalam esensi ini.
Pemakaian bentuk
Pada abad ke-20, terdapat juga beberapa contoh komponis yang menamakan komposisi mereka dengan sebutan "Impromptu", seperti:
- Gabriel Fauré mengkomposisikan enam Impromptus antara 1881 dan 1913.
- Richard Rodney Bennett mengkomposisikan lima Impromptus untuk gitar pada 1968
- Maurice Journeau mengkomposisikan enam Impromptus antara 1971 dan 1974.[1]
