Kalmunai (bahasa Tamil: கல்முனை; bahasa Sinhala: කල්මුනේ, translit. Kalmunē) adalah kota terbesar di Distrik Ampara. Ini juga merupakan kota terbesar di Provinsi Timur, Sri Lanka. Ini memiliki total populasi 106.780 pada tahun 2011.[2] Ini adalah salah satu dari sedikit kotamadya mayoritas Muslim di negara ini. Ketika Muslim di Kolombo diusir oleh Portugis pada abad ke-17, mereka melarikan diri ke Kandy dan mencari perlindungan dengan Raja Rajasinha II, yang memukimkan kembali para pengungsi ini di Kalmunai (8.000 pengungsi) dan Kattankudy (4.000).
Kalmunai adalah situs pertanian kerajaan, sebagai hasil dari pemukiman ini, menjadi daerah mayoritas Muslim.[3]
