Lingulata adalah kelas brakiopoda, tertua dari semua brakiopoda setelah ada sejak periode Kambrium (541 juta tahun yang lalu). Mereka juga berada di antara yang paling morfologis konservatif brakiopoda, setelah berlangsung dari penampilan awal mereka untuk saat ini dengan sangat sedikit perubahan bentuk. Kerang spesimen hidup ditemukan hari ini di perairan sekitar Jepang hampir sama dengan fosil Kambrium kuno.
