Matthew Wayne Shepard (1 Desember 1976 – 12 Oktober 1998) adalah seorang mahasiswa Universitas Wyoming yang disiksa dan dibunuh di dekat Laramie, Wyoming, pada Oktober 1998. Dia dikeroyok pada malam 6–7 Oktober, dan meninggal dunia di Poudre Valley Hospital di Fort Collins, Colorado, pada 12 Oktober karena luka parah di bagian kepala.
Pada saat penyelidikan pengadilan, saksi mengatakan bahwa Shepard menjadi target karena orientasi seksualnya. Pembunuhan Shepard membawa perhatian nasional dan internasional terhadap legislasi "kejahatan kebencian" di Amerika Serikat, baik di tingkat negara bagian dan tingkat federal.[1]
