Merpati hitam (Turacoena ) adalah genus kecil merpati dalam famili Columbidae yang terdapat di Indonesia.
Genus ini diperkenalkan pada tahun 1854 oleh naturalis Perancis Charles Lucien Bonaparte .[1] Jenis spesiesnya adalah Merpati hitam sulawesi ( Turacoena manadensis ).[2] [3] Nama Turacoena menggabungkan nama genus Turacus yang diperkenalkan oleh naturalis Perancis Georges Cuvier pada tahun 1800 dan bahasa Yunani Kuno oinas yang berarti "merpati".[4]
Genus ini hanya mencakup 3 spesies. [5]

- Merpati hitam timor (Turacoena modensis)
