Metoposaurus (berarti "kadal depan") adalah sebuah genus punah temnospondyli stereospondyli yang diketahui dari periode Trias Akhir di Jerman, Italia, Polandia dan Portugal.[1][2] Hewan ini sebagian besar akuatik,[3] dengan kaki lemah dan pendek, gigi tajam, dan kepala yang pipih dan besar.[4] Hewan yang sangat pipih ini sebagian besar memakan ikan, yang mereka tangkap dengan rahang lebar mereka yang menyandang gig-gigi mirip jarum. Banyak situs kematian massal Metoposaurus telah ditemukan, barangkali karena hewan ini bergerombol di kolam-kolam mengering karena kemarau.
