NGC 40 (juga dikenal sebagai Nebula Simpul Dasi dan Caldwell 2) adalah nebula planeter yang ditemukan oleh William Herschel pada 25 November 1788, dan terdiri dari gas panas di sekitar bintang mati. Bintang telah dikeluarkan lapisan luarnya yang telah meninggalkan sebuah bintang kecil panas dengan suhu di permukaan sekitar 50.000[3] derajat (Celcius). Radiasi dari bintang menyebabkan lapisan luar untuk memanaskan menjadi sekitar 10.000[3] derajat (Celcius) dan terletak sekitar satu[3] tahun cahaya. Sekitar 30.000[3] tahun dari sekarang, para ilmuwan berteori bahwa NGC 40 akan memudar, hanya menyisakan bintang katai putih sekitar ukuran Bumi.[3]
