Pasteurella multocida adalah spesies bakteri non-motil berbentukkokobasilus kecil, bersifat Gram-negatif yang sensitif terhadap antibiotika penisilin.[1]
Sejarah
Pasteurella multocida pertama kali ditemukan tahun 1878. Namun, Pasteurella multocida baru diisolasi pada tahun 1880, oleh Louis Pasteur, orang yang menjadi asal-usul kata Pasteurella untuk menghormatinya.
Karakteristik
P. multocida dapat bersifat aerobik atau anaerobik fakultatif. Bakteri ini tumbuh optimal pada temperatur 37 °C. Menunjukkan virulensi pada hewan laboratorium, terutama tikus dan kelinci.[2]
