Piritinol, juga disebut piridoksin disulfida atau piritioksin, adalah analog vitamin B6 (piridoksin HCl) semi-sintetik yang larut dalam air. Obat ini diproduksi pada tahun 1961 oleh Merck Laboratories dengan mengikat 2 senyawa vitamin B6 bersama-sama dengan jembatan disulfida. Sejak tahun 1970-an, obat ini telah menjadi obat resep dan OTC di beberapa negara untuk gangguan kognitif, artritis reumatoid,[1] dan gangguan belajar pada anak-anak. Sejak awal tahun 1990-an obat ini telah dijual sebagai suplemen makanan nootropik di Amerika Serikat.
Efek samping
Efek samping yang mungkin terjadi termasuk mual, sakit kepala,[2] dan reaksi alergi yang jarang terjadi (reaksi kulit ringan).[3] Survei tahun 2004 yang melibatkan enam laporan kasus menunjukkan adanya hubungan antara piritinol dan hepatitis kolestatik yang parah ketika mengonsumsi beberapa obat untuk penyakit tertentu.[4]
Efek samping langka lainnya: pankreatitis akut[5] dan erupsi fotoalergi.[6]
