Timothy Pont

Pdt. Timothy Pont (c. 1560 - c. 1627) adalah seorang pendeta, kartografer, dan topografer Skotlandia. Dia adalah orang pertama yang membuat peta Skotlandia secara terperinci. Peta Pont adalah salah satu peta paling awal yang masih ada yang menunjukkan sebuah negara Eropa dengan sangat detail, dari survei yang sebenarnya.
Kehidupan
Dia adalah putra sulung Robert Pont, seorang pendeta Gereja Skotlandia di Edinburgh dan Lord of Session (hakim), melalui istri pertamanya, Catherine, putri Masterton dari Grange.[1]
Dia diterima masuk sebagai mahasiswa di St Leonard's College, St Andrews, pada tahun 1580, dan memperoleh gelar M.A. pada tahun 1584. Ia menghabiskan akhir tahun 1580-an dan 1590-an berkeliling Skotlandia. Antara tahun 1601 dan 1610, ia menjadi pendeta di Gereja Paroki Dunnet di Caithness. Dia mengambil cuti selama satu tahun pada tahun 1608 untuk memetakan Skotlandia. Dia melanjutkan tugasnya pada 7 Desember 1610; tetapi dia mengundurkan diri beberapa waktu sebelum 1614, ketika nama William Smith muncul sebagai pendeta paroki. Pada tanggal 25 Juli 1609 Pont menerima hibah Kerajaan seluas dua ribu ekar (8 km²) sehubungan dengan skema perkebunan Ulster, dengan harga 400 l.[2]
