هناك فرق بين غولدن غلوب وجائزة الاوسكار . حيث تختص الأوسكار بتقديم الجوائز حول الأعمال السينمائية فقط، فيما تشمل غولدن غلوب العديد من الأعمال التليفزيونية والسينمائية.
وترجع فائدة غولدن غلوب إلي توقيت الإعلان عن جوائزها، حيث ان الجوائز يتم توزيعها قبل أيام من انتهاء فترة التصويت علي الفائزين بجوائز الأوسكار لذلك قد تؤثر في بعض الأحيان جوائز غولدن غلوب علي تحديد الفائزين بجوائز الأوسكار. علي الرغم من شهرة الاوسكار إلا ان حفل غولدن غلوب يعتبر واقعي بشكل أكبر. يرجع ذلك إلي الخطابات وإلقاء الكلمات والتي تكون بشكل طبيعي وأقل رسمية من حفل الأوسكار والذي يغلب عليه الطابع الرسمي من حيث التنظيم وتوزيع الجوائز. الفئة التي تحدد الفائزين بجوائز غولدن غلوب هم نُقاد الأفلام علي عكس جوائز الأوسكار والتي يشترك في لجنة تحكيمها خبراء ومتخصصون في مجال صناعة السينما.[ 1]
