AVI
Audio Video Interleave[1] (također i Audio Video Interleaved), poznat po svom akronimu AVI, je multimedijalni kontejner format predstavljen od strane Microsofta u novembru 1992. godine kao dio njihove Video for Windows tehnologije. AVI datoteke mogu imati i zvučni i video sadržaj u kontejneru, što omogućuje sinhroniziranu reprodukciju zvuka i slike. Kao i DVD-Video format, AVI datoteke pružaju podršku za višestruki streaming zvuka i videa, iako se ove funkcije rijetko koriste.
Većina AVI datoteka također koristi formatske produžetke koje je razvila Matrox OpenDML group u februaru 1996. Ove datoteke imaju podšku Microsofta i neslužbeno se nazivaju "AVI 2.0".
Format
AVI je izveden od Resource Interchange File Format (RIFF), napravljen 1991. za Windows 3.1, koji dijeli podatke u datotekama u blokove, ili engl. "chunks". Svaki "chunk" se identificira jednim FourCC tagom. Jedna AVI datoteka se oblikuje kao jedan chunk u RIFF formatiranoj datoteci, koja se onda dijeli na dva obavezna "chunks" i jedan neobavezan.
