Australski dolar (znak: $; kod: AUD; također skraćeno A$ ili ponekad AU$ da bi se razlikovao od drugih valuta denominiranih u dolarima;[1][2] a također se naziva i dolar) je službena valuta i zakonsko sredstvo plaćanja Australije, uključujući sve njene vanjske teritorije i tri nezavisne suverene pacifičke ostrvske države: Kiribati, Nauru i Tuvalu.[3][4][5][6] U aprilu 2022. bio je šesta najtrgovanija valuta na deviznom tržištu,[7] a od prvog kvartala 2024. šesta najkorištenija rezervna valuta u globalnim rezervama.[8]
Australski dolar uveden je kao decimalna valuta 14. februara 1966. kako bi zamijenio nedecimalnu australsku funtu, sa kursom konverzije od dva dolara za funtu (£A1 = A$2). Podijeljen je na 100 centi. Simbol $ prethodi iznosu. Prilikom uvođenja valute, simbol $ je trebao imati dva poteza, ali verzija s jednim potezom je također uvijek bila prihvatljiva.[9][10]
U 2023, u opticaju je bilo 4,4 milijarde australskih dolara u kovanicama[11] i 101,3 milijarde australskih dolara u novčanicama,[12] ili oko 6.700 australskih dolara po osobi u Australiji,[13] što uključuje novčane rezerve koje drži bankarski sistem i gotovinu u opticaju u drugim zemljama ili koja se drži kao devizna rezerva.
