BPI nabor koji sadrži člana 4 porodicu B je protein koji kod ljudi kodiran genom BPIFB4.[5]
BPIFB4 ima sličnost u sekvenci s antimikrobnim peptidima koji vežu lipofilne supstrate i pružaju odbranu od od gram-negativnih bakterija.[6]
Pretragom baze podataka o mirisnom epitelu EST za sekvence slične pacovskim Ry2g5, nakon čega slijedi PCR biblioteke cDNK ljudskog ]]fetus]]nog mozga, klonirali su BPIFB4, koji su nazvali RY2G5. Izvedeni protein s 575 aminokiselina ima područje bogato leucinom, dva konzervirana cisteina i tri konzervirana prolina. Dijeli 90% aminokiselinskog identiteta s 462-aminokiselinskim mišjim ortologom. Northern blot analiza 16 ljudskih tkiva otkrila je transkript RY2G5 od 2,2 kb samo u leukocitima periferne krvi. RT-PCR analiza 14 tkiva miša otkrila je ekspresiju Ry2g5 samo u mirisnom epitelu. Fluorescentno označeni ljudski RY2G5 eksprimiran je u distribuciji tačaka citoplazme u transficiranim HEK293 ćelijama. Utvrdiili su da gen BPIFB4 sadrži 15 kodirajućih egzona i obuhvata približno 28,8 kb.
