Batis je mali rod cvjetnica, jedini u porodici Bataceae iz reda Brassicales, razreda Magnoliopsida, divizija Tracheophyta.[1]
One su halofiti (tolerantne na soli) slanih močvara toplih i umjerenih, obalnih područja tropske Amerike (B. maritima) i tropske Australazije (B. argillicola).
Morfologija i taksonomija
Obje vrste su zimzeleni, niski grmovi, koji naraste do 10–70 cm, tamo gdje kolonizira novo blato, ali jednom ukorijenjene, izrastu u grm. Listovi su mali, zadebljalii, mesnati i usko klupčasti, svijetlo zeleni, ali mogu poprimiti i crvenkastu boju. Cvjetovi su mali, proizvedeni u neuglednim šiljcima, a cvjetaju od ljeta do jeseni. Američka vrsta je dvodomna, dok je australska jednodomna.
Neki botaničari dijele B. maritima u pet vrsta, sa B. californica , B. fruticosa , B. spinoza i B. vermiculatus, ali ovo tumačenje nije široko prihvaćeno.
