Bit
Bit je pojam koji se koristi u informatici, informacionoj tehnici i drugim srodnim naukama. Riječ je nastala od binary digit i koristi se kao:[1]
- Bit - memorijska jedinica
- Bit - jedinica za količinu podataka
- Bit - jedinica za informacioni sadržaj
Pojam je 1946. godine predložio matematičar John W. Tukey, po nekim izvorima možda čak i 1943. Oficijelno se pojam po prvi put pojavio 1948-te na prvoj strani poznatog djela A Mathematical Theory of Communication autora Claude Shannon.
U praksi se uglavnom koriste veće memorijske jedinice kao npr. bajt, megabajt, itd.
