Funkcija
Citosolni i membranski oblici glutation S-transferaze kodirani su od putem dvije različite porodice supergena. Do sada je identifikovano osam različitih klasa rastvorljivih citoplazmatskih sisarskih glutation S-transferaza: alfa, kapa, mu, omega, pi, sigma, teta i zeta. Ovaj gen kodira citoplazmatsku glutation S-transferazu koja pripada mu klasi. Mu klasa enzima funkcionira u detoksikaciji elektrofilnih spojeva, uključujući karcinogene, terapeutske lijekove, otrove iz okoline i proizvode oksidativnih stresova, konjugacije sa glutationom.
Geni koji kodiraju mu klasu enzima su organizovani u genski klaster na hromosomskoj regiji 1p13.3 i poznato je da su veoma polimorfni. Ove genetičke varijacije mogu promijeniti osjetljivost osoba na karcinogene i toksine, kao i uticati na toksičnost i djelotvornost određenih lijekova. Nulta mutacija ove klase mu gena povezana je sa povećanjem broja kancera, vjerovatno zbog povećane osjetljivosti na toksine i karcinogene iz okoline. Varijantama transkripta ovog gena kodirano je više izoformi proteina.[6]
