Jo Swerling

Jo Swerling (8. april 1897. – 23. oktobar 1964.) bio je američki pozorišni posac, tekstopisac i scenarist.

Rani život i početak karijere

Rođen kao Joseph Swerling u Berdičevu, Ukrajina,^[1] Swerling je bio jedan od brojnih jevrejskih izbjeglica iz carskog režima. Odrastao je na Lower East Sideu u New Yorku, gdje je prodavao novine kako bi izdržavao svoju porodicu. Radio je kao pisac u novinama i časopisima ranih 1920-ih. Napisao je "The Cinderella Girls" braće Marks, koji je propao, a također je napisao i njihov prvi film, neobjavljenu nijemu komediju, kratki film Humor Risk (1921). Postigao je veliki uspjeh sa knjigom i tekstovima za muzičku reviju The New Yorkers (1927) i predstavu The Kibitzer (1929), potonju koju je napisao zajedno sa glumcem Edvardom G. Robinsonom.

U Hollywoodu

Swerlinga je u Hollywood doveo šef Columbia Pictures Harry Cohn da radi na scenariju za Ladies of Leisure (1930) Franka Capre, prvu od nekoliko saradnji s režiserom. Privatni život
