MIME (engl. skraćenica za Multi-purpose Internet Mail Extensions)[1] je internetski standard koji proširuje funkcionalnost e-pošte da se omogući:
- Tekst koji nije po kodnom rasporedu ASCII
- Prilozi koji nisu tekst
- Tijelo poruke na više dijelova
- Informacija u zaglavlju koja nije po ASCII kodnom rasporedu
Iako je MIME prvobitno namijenjen kao standard za e-poštu, dan danas se koristi i za opisivanje vrste internet medija, u među ostalom na web-u, ali također i u nekim aplikacijama kao na primjer IBM Lotus Domino i IBM Lotus Quickr.
