Mitohondrijski faktor translacijske inicijacije IF-2 jest protein koji je kod ljudi kodiran genom MTIF2 sa hromosoma 2.[5][6][7]

Funkcija
Tokom inicijacije biosinteze proteina, inicijacijski faktor-2 (IF-2) promovira vezivanje inicijatorske tRNK za malu podjedinicu ribosoma na način ovisan o GTP. Prokariotski IF-2 je jedan polipeptid, dok je eukariotski citoplazmatski IF-2 (eIF-2) trimerni protein. Mitohondrije goveđe jetre sadrže IF-2(mt), monomerni protein od 85 kD koji je ekvivalentan prokariotskom IF-2. Predviđeni ljudski protein od 727 aminokiselina sadrži sekvencu od 29 aminokiselina. Ljudski IF-2(mt) dijeli 32 do 38% identičnosti aminokiselinske sekvence sa IF-2(mt) kvasca i nekoliko prokariotskih IF-2, sa najvećim stepenom konzerviranosti u G-domenima proteina. Za ovaj gen su pronađene dvije varijante transkripta koje kodiraju isti protein.[7]
