Piksel
Piksel (engleski: PIX (picture) ELement - Pixel) jest najmanji grafički element bitmap slike.[1]
Svaki piksel je uzorak izvorne slike. Više uzoraka obično daju tačniju reprezentaciju slike. Intenzitet svakog piksela je promjenjiv. Boja se obično prezentuje s tri ili četiri intenziteta kao što su RGB ili CMYK.
Broj piksela određene fotografije se definiše uz pomoć rezolucije. Rezolucija se razlikuje u zavisnosti o proizvođača, a njom se definiše optimalna i maksimalna vidljivost. Većina standarda vezanih za rezoluciju određuju se na osnovu snage grafičke kartice. Ukoliko je rezolucija manja, to znači da je manje precizna vidljivost detalja na digitalnoj fotografiji, manja je oštrina, ali je manji i prostor koji može da zahvati objektiv kamere.[1]
Riječ "pixel" prvi put je korištena 1965. na JPL-u koju je Frederic C. Billingsley koristio da opiše elemente skeniranih slika sa svemirskih sondi na Mjesecu i Marsu.[2]
