Prezbiter
Prezviter (grč. presbyteros: starješina, starješina; crkveno-lat. presbyter: sveštenik; staroslavenski: prezbiter), naziv za člana Velikog jevrejskog vijeća (prezbiterija ili Sinedrija), za starješinu sinagoge u Palestini i za osobu koja služi kao poglavar hrišćanske zajednice. U ranokršćansko doba, prezviter je bio istaknuti vjernik, poglavar kršćanske crkvene zajednice. Imena prezbiter i biskup često u početku mogu biti sinonimi. Razvojem crkvene hijerarhije već u 2. vijeku (na Istoku i Zapadu) prezviter postaje sinonim za sveštenika, prezviteri su saradnici episkopa (biskupa). Služba i zajednica prezbitera (sveštenika) naziva se prezbiterijem (sinonim: sveštenstvo).
U nekim protestantskim crkvama prezbiter je naziv za laike zadužene za neke crkvene poslove. Cf. prezviter, protoprezviter, sveštenik, duhovnik.
