XML
XML (skraćenica na engleskom za Extensible Markup Language) je proširiv jezik za označavanje koji definira skup pravila za kodiranje dokumenata u obliku koji je ujedno i ljudima i mašinama čitljiv. On je definiran u specifikaciji XML 1.0[1] proizvedena od strane W3C zajedno sa nekoliko drugih srodnih specifikacija[2]. XML je pojedostavljena verzija SGML-a (Standard Generalized Markup Language), koji se već decenijama koristi u izdavačkim sistemima.
Glavna upotreba XML-a danas je za razmjenu informacija između različitih računarskih sistema, naročito tih sistema koji su povezani preko Interneta.
Važno je navesti da HTML nije jedan od XML jezika jer ne zadovoljava dobru strukturu dokumenta. Međutim, XHTML jeste XML jezik jer zahtijeva dobru strukturu i validitet (tj. tačnost) dokumenta.
