Borostomias mononema és una espècie de peix de la família dels estòmids i de l'ordre dels estomiformes present a l'Atlàntic oriental (des del Marroc fins a la República del Congo),^[4] l'Atlàntic occidental (des del sud dels Estats Units fins al Golf de Mèxic i el Carib),^[5]^[6] les Guaianes,^[7] Austràlia,^[8]^[9] Nova Zelanda,^[10] el nord-oest del Pacífic^[11] i l'Índic.^[12]^[13] Els mascles poden assolir 31 cm de longitud total.^[12]^[14] És un peix marí i d'aigües profundes que viu entre 640-658 m de fondària.^[12]^[15] Menja peixos i crustacis.^[16] És depredat per Pterodroma incerta.^[17]^[18]
