Selskabet blev grundlagt som møbelfirma i 1892 af Freidemir Poggenpohl. Poggenpohl fik succes med at introducerede ergonomiske borde og køkkenskabe i i god arbejdshøjde, samt deres innovationer af opbevaringsplads til køkkener.[1]
