Pyrrol er en heterocyklisk, aromatisk, organisk forbindelse som består af en femleddet ring med formlen C4H4NH.[3] Det er en farveløs, flygtig væske, der let mørkner ved udsættelse for luft. Substituerede derivater kaldes også pyrroler, f.eks. N-methylpyrrol, C4H4NCH3. Porphobilinogen, et trisubstitueret pyrrol, er den biosyntetiske udgangsstof for mange naturligt forekommende forbindelser, så som hæm.[4]
Pyrroler er komponenter i mere komplekse makrocykler, herunder porfyrinogener og produkter afledt heraf, som porfyriner i hæm, kloriner, bakteriokloriner og klorofyller.[5]
