Maria Sharapova won the singles tennis title at the 2009 Pan Pacific Open after Jelena Janković retired from the final with a wrist injury, with the scoreline at 5–2.[1]

Dinara Safina was the defending champion, but lost to Chang Kai-chen in the second round.[2]
