It’s been a decade since he released a standup special, largely telling his honed material in dark basements. If you want to hear a wonderfully melancholic joke about a sandwich-maker working at Subway from the comfort of your own home, you’re in luck."[2] Las Vegas Weekly said "The host of Comedy Central’s aughts fave Insomniac with Dave Attell originally explored America’s late-night underbelly. Today, deceptively dark material and an empathetic outlook have become hallmarks for the 59-year-old comic.[3] Decider wrote "Attell introduces several of his jokes as offensive or naughty or transgressive (“I don’t care if lose my entire North Korean fanbase”), but ultimately so few of them actually are worth protesting because of just how well he has crafted not only the construction of the jokes themselves, but also in how ludicrous it sounds when he delivers them.
