This list of Doraemon films features both feature-length and short films based on the manga and anime series Doraemon . Since 1980, all of these films to date have been released by Toho . Toho currently holds worldwide distribution and licensing rights for all of the films in the series. As of 2024, there are 44 feature films and 2 special feature films.
At the Japanese box office , Doraemon had grossed more than ¥100 billion revenue and sold more than 100 million tickets by 2015, having surpassed Godzilla as the highest-grossing film franchise in Japan .[ 1] As of 2020[update] , the Doraemon films have grossed a total of ¥187 billion ($1.7 billion ) worldwide.[ 2] Doraemon is on the list of highest-grossing films in Japan , one of the all time highest-grossing non-English film franchises , and one of the highest-grossing animated film franchises worldwide.
Feature films
The original series films were directed by Hiroshi Fukutomi in 1980, Hideo Nishimaki from 1981-1982, and Tsutomu Shibayama from 1983-2004. Shunsuke Kikuchi was the music composer of the movies from 1980-1997, Senri Oe served as music composer from 1998-1999, Katsumi Horii served as music composer from 2000-2004. Kan Sawada served as music composer for the current series films from 2006-2017 and Takayuki Hattori has composed since 2018.
