Nanami Hashimoto was born on February 20, 1993 in Asahikawa City, Hokkaido.[3] She has one younger brother.[4] Hashimoto revealed on her "graduation" from Nogizaka46 that she grew up in a poor household, saying, "Gas, water, and electricity were cut off on a daily basis due to nonpayment of bills." in an episode of Nogizaka Underconstruction,[5] but that even so, she grew up in a family that was passionate about education and was instilled with basic academic skills.[3]
During her school days she was active in the basketball club from elementary up to highschool and at one point became the vice president and manager of the club.[6] Since then she has become an avid fan of the Japanese basketball league and the NBA.[7] At that time, her future career goals were to become a civil servant or a lawyer.[8]
After graduating from high school, she went to an art university in Tokyo to study spatial design.[9]
