Al Wakrah (arabieraz: الوكرة) Qatarko hiria da, izen bereko udalerriko hiriburua dena. Persiar golkoko kostaldean kokaturik, herrialdeko bigarren hiririk populatuena eta hirugarren handiena da.
Historia
Ebidentzia arkeologiko ugarien ondorioz, Al Wakrah Qatarreko lehen hirigunea izan zela baieztatu zuten.[1] Hiria perla-ekoizle ospetsua izan zen historikoki.[2] 1783tik 1868ra bitartean, Qatarreko matxinada, Bahrain-Abu Dabi aliantzaren menderatzearen aurka, garai hartan, Al Wakrah hiri gaztea bonbardatu eta suntsitu zuen aliantzaren armadak, desagertarazi arte.[3]
Otomandar Inperioaren garaian, agintariek hiria berreraiki zuten, zaintza postu bezala erabilia izateko, tokiko biztanleriaren eta otomandar armadako tropen arteko etengabeko marruskadurak, arabiar penintsula anexionatzeko asmoa zuten britainiar espediziokideen pixkanakako sarrera bultzatuz.[4][5][6]
Otomandar Inperioaren zatiketaren ondoren, Arabiar penintsulako britainiar okupazio gobernuak Afrikatik zetozen esklaboak Al Wakrah portuaren bidez lekualdatu zituen. Bertatik, mila eta bi mila esklabo artean sartu zituzten Ekialde Hurbilean.[7][8]
Qatarren independentziak Europa eta Ipar Amerikako merkatuetara perlak esportatzeko portu gisa kokatzea ahalbidetu zion hiriari.[9][10]
