Amstel (nederlanderaz ˈɑmstəl ahoskatua) Herbehereetako ibaia da, Amsterdam zeharkatzen duena. Izena antzinako nederlanderazko Aeme-stelle hitzetik dator, euskaraz "ur-eremu" esan nahi duena.[1]
Amstel garagardoak bere izena du, garagardoa ekoizteko bere ura erabiltzen zuten eta.
Hasieran bi ibai txikien, Drecht eta Kromme Mijdrecht, lotunean iturria zuen, Uithoorndik hegoaldean. Baina Amstel-Drecht ubidea eraiki zutenean, Drecht ibaia eta Aarkanaal ubidearen lotunean, Nieuwveen herritik gertu, jaioa da. Ibaiadar nagusiak Kromme Mijdrecht, Bullewijk eta Waver ibaiak dira.
