Avahi Madagaskarren bizi diren lemur genero bat da, Strepsirrhini barruko primatez osatua. Guztira 9 espezie ezagutzen dira.
30etik 50 zentimetrorako tamaina dute, eta 600etik 1200 gramorako pisua har dezakete. Indriidae barruan dauden lemurerik txikienak dira. Euren larrua eta ilea motza eta artiletsua da.[1] Ilea gris marroitik gorrixkara izan daiteke, bizkarran eta hanketan ile txuriarekin[2] eta isats laranjarekin. Burua borobila dute, mutur motzarekin eta belarriak ilearen barruan.
Avahiak baso heze zein lehorretan bizi dira, hostoen artean denbora gehiena pasaz. Foliboro gehienek bezala janariaren liseriketa egiteko denbora luzea behar dute. Talde txikitan bizi dira (2-5 kide), askotan gurasoak eta euren seme-alabak.[3]
