Biroide
Biroideak birusen antzeko eragile infekziosoak dira, zelulaz kanpoko zikloa dutenak (egoera horretan bizigabeak edo inerteak izanik) eta baita zelula barneko zikloa ere ("utzitako" jarduera metabolikoarekin, zelularen tresneria metabolikoa beren onurako erabiltzen baitute). Birusen aldean, baina, berezko ezaugarriak dituzte: ez dute material genetikoa babesten duen kapsiderik, eta ezta lipido edo proteinarik ere. Haien material genetikoa harizpi bakarreko ARNz osatuta dago, egitura ziklikoa duena. ARN horrek ez du proteina kodetzeko generik, beraz ostalariaren funtzioen menpe dago guztiz biroidea erreplikatzeko.
