Caput mortuum
Caput mortuum (plurala capita mortua) Latinezko termino bat da, literalki "hildako burua" edo "baliorik gabeko soberakin" esan nahi duena[1]. Alkimian erabiltzen zen terminoa da.
Caput mortuumek (batzuetan ere nigredo izenez ezaguna) sublimazioa bezalako prozesu kimikoen ondoren geratzen zen soberakinari erreferentzia egiten zion. Sustantzia baten balioaren galera adierazten duen. Alkimistek soberakin hori estilizatutako hildako burezur batekin irudikatzen zuten, literalki hildako baten burua[2].
Ikurra, XVIII. mendean kimikan ere erabili zen soberakin bat zegoela adierazteko. Caput mortuum ere erabili ohi zen crocus metallorum adierazteko, sulfato ferrosoak (crocus martis) zein kobre oxidoak (crocus veneris) uzten zuten konposatu metaliko arre-gorria[3]. Hematitearen burdin oxidoarekin egiten zen pigmentuak ere Caput mortuum izena hartzen zuen[4].
