Etimologia
Hitzak jatorria XVII. mendean du. Garai hartan Frantziako Nîmes hiria ehungintza gune garrantzitsua zen. Andre familiak ehun urdina fabrikatzen zuten, eta hortik jaso zuen izena, “de Nîmes” ahoskatzeko modua baino ez da[1].
Jeansak eta denima
Jeans hitza orain arte denim baino gehiago erabili izan da, baina antzeko jatorria dute. Jeans hasieran, belaontzien oihalak eta olanak egiteko erabiltzen zuten, baina ehuna findu eta arropak egiten hasi ziren. Diotenez, indigoz tindatutako oihal hura erabiliz, galtza parea egiten lehenak italiarrak izan ziren, Genovan hain zuzen. Frantsesek Gênes esaten diote Italiako hiriari eta halaxe esan zieten praka berriei. Ondoren, Gênes jeans bihurtu zuen[1].
