Eforoa, antzinako grezieraz Ἔφορος, ἐπί ("gain") eta ὁράω ("ikusi") hitz elkarketatik sortua, Antzinako Grezian zenbait magistratuek jasotako izendapena zen. Guztien artean garrantzitsuenak Espartako eforoak ziren.
Espartan bost eforo zeuden, urtero hautatuak, hilabetero Espartako erregeei babes ematea zin egiten zuten, eta era berean, erregeek legeak errespetatzea zin egiten zuten.
Jatorria
Herodotoren arabera Likurgo Espartakoak erakundea sortu omen zuen, bere izate kronologiko nahiz historikoa zalantzan ipintzen den legegilea. Dena dela, erforoen sorrera K.a. VII. mendean ezarri ohi da.
