Gazela
Gazela Antilopinae subfamiliako hainbat espeziek hartzen duten izen arrunta da. Hiru genero ezberdinetako animaliak izendatzen dira horrela, Gazella generokoetaz gain Nanger eta Eudorcas generotako espezieak. Azken bi genero hauek Gazella-ren azpigenero kontsideratzen baziren ere, gaur egun espezie bereizitzat hartzen dira.
Afrikako sabanatan bizi dira gazela espezie gehienak, baina badira Erdialdeko Asian eta Indiako azpikontinentean ere. Gazelen artean ezagunenak Thomson gazela (Eudorcas thomsonii) eta mendiko gazela (Gazella gazella) dira. Springboka ez da gazela bat baina haien ahaidea bada.
Etimologia eta sinbolismoa
Arabierazko غزال (ġazāl) hitzetik dator[1]. Magrebtarrek ġazēl esaten dute eta badirudi Europara antzinako espainieratik eta frantsesetik iritsi zela[2]. Arabiarrek haien poesietan emakumezkoen edertasunaren sinbolotzat dute[3]. Sahara azpiko Afrikako herrialde askotan "dangelo" esaten diote, "orein arina" esan nahi du[4].
Deskribapen orokorra
Gazelak antilope ertainak edi txikiak dira, 60-110 cm-ko altuera hartzen dute. Kolore arre argia izaten dute. Bi adar kurbatu dituzte buru gainean.
Animalia arinak dira. Espezie batzuek 100 km/h abiadura ere hartzen dute eta denbora batez 50 km/h mantentzeko gai dira.
