Jatorri frantseseko familia bateko kidea zen, agian Touraine eskualdekoa. Antiokiako Printzerriko komandantea eta Zaldunen Krak-eko jauna izan zen. 1206an Ordenako Maisu Nagusi izendatu zuten, Fernando Alfontso Portugalgoak dimisioa eman ondoren.
Ordenako zaldunek ez zuten parte-hartze militar aktiborik izan haren agintaldian, Laugarren Gurutzada Konstantinoplan garatu baitzen.
