Geotrupidae kakalardoen 600 espezie baino gehiago hartzen dituen familia bat da. Gehienak koprofagoak dira, badaude saprofitoak ere, deskonposatzen ari diren onddo eta landaretaz elikatzen direnak. Adibide ezagunena Geotrupes stercorarius da.
