Gila munstro (Heloderma) Helodermatidae familia monotipikoaren genero bakarraren izen arrunta da, Platynota narrasti infraordenaren barruan sailkatua. Ameriketako Estatu Batuetako hegoaldean, Mexikon eta Guatemalan bizi dira. Baranoen familiako kide gutxi batzuekin batera pozoia sortzeko gaitasuna duten saurio bakarrak dira.[1]
Itxuraz muskerraren antzekoak izaten dira. Buru zabal handia dute, begi txikiak, aho zabala eta bi puntako mizto bilkorra. Masailezurretako giltzaduren ondoan pozoi-guruinak dituzte. Gorputzaren gainaldea garatxoaren antzeko ezkata txikiz estalia dute. Kolorez, zuri-beltzak, edo zuri eta marroiak izaten dira.[2]
