Jules Barbier (Paris, 1825eko martxoaren 8a - Paris, 1901eko urtarrilaren 16a) poeta, antzerkigile eta libretista frantziarra izan zen.[1] Charles Gounodek egin zituen opera gehienen libretoak idatzi zituen, Fausto (1859) barne. Michel Carré (1821-1872) libretistarekin ere lan egin zuen. Jacques Offenbachen Les Contes d'Hoffmann (1881) operaren libretoa ere idatzi zuen. Pierre Barbier semeak aitaren ibilbidea ere jarraitu zuen, idazle eta libreto egile gisa.[2] Ohorezko Legioaren zalduna 1865ean izendatu zuten; Ohorezko Legioaren ofiziala 1880an
