Karyes (grezieraz, Καρυές) Athos mendiko herria da. Estatu monastiko horren administrazio orokorra, erlijiosoa zein zibila, dago bertan. 233 biztanle ditu.
Historia
Sava Serbiakoa urte batzuk herri honetan egon zen eta Hieromonge bihurtu zen. 1201. urtean Archimandrita egin zuten. Karyesen egon zen bitartean Karyes Typicon idatzi zuen. 1219an Serbiako lehen artzapezpiku bihurtu zen.[1]
1283an, Mikel VIII.a Paleologo enperadore bizantziarraren garaian, Gurutzatuek Athos mendiari eraso egin zioten. Protosa erahil zuten eta Protaton arpilatu zuten; monje asko hil zituzten ere bai. Monje horiek Eliza Ortodoxoaren martiriak dira eta haien oroimenez abenduaren 5ean Juliotar egutegiaren arabera; Egutegi gregorianoan, abenduaren 18an, haien festa ospatzen da.
