Kattegat[1] Suediako mendebaldea eta Danimarkako Jutlandia penintsula banatzen dituen itsasartea da. Kattegatek Skagerrakekin batera, Ipar Itsasoa eta Itsaso Baltikoa lotzen ditu.
Sjælland eta Fionia uharteek hegoaldeko bidea ia guztiz setiatzen dutenez, batzuk itsasartetzat baino badiatzat dute. Kattegatetik Itsaso Batikora ailegatzeko hiru itsasarte daude:
- Øresund itsasartea hego-ekialdean (Sjælland eta Eskandinaviar penintsula artean),
- Belt handia (Storebælt) erdialdean (Fionia eta Sjælland artean),
- Belt txikia (Lillebælt) hego-mendebaldean (Jutlandia eta Fionia artean).
Kattegatean zenbait uharte daude, nagusiak Samsø, Læsø eta Anholt izanik.
"Kattegat" izena nederlandar kat (katua) eta gat (zuloa) hitzetik datoz, eskualdean nabigatzea oso zaila zelako. Lehen bai Skagerrakek bai Kattegatek beste izenak zuten: Norvegiako itsasoa eta Jutlandiako itsasoa hain zuzen.
