Kortex prefrontala[1] burmuineko lobulu frontalen aurreko zatia da, eta gune motorra eta aurre-motorraren aurretik dago. Burmuin-eskualde hori kognitiboki konplexuak diren portaeren plangintzan inplikatuta dago, nortasunaren adierazpenean, erabakiak hartzeko prozesuetan eta unean uneko portaera sozial egokiaren egokitzapenean.[2] Burmuin-eskualde horren funtsezko jarduera pentsamenduak eta ekintzak barne-helburuen arabera koordinatzea da.[3]
